Tokyo International Mineral Autumn Fair (formerly: IMAGE), once thought to be just an offshoot of the internationally established Tokyo International Mineral Fair (TIMA), has in the last few years developed a reputation of its own and is now recognized in the commercial mineral industry as an important annual exhibition and sale of minerals, fossils, meteorites and gems. It seems that Japan has not only met but exceeded its goal to develop a base of mineral enthusiasts. Today Japanese adults and children alike seem to have an interest in all things mineral. TIMA is now and still willing to meet the expectations of mineral fans around the world and hopes to develop more mineral and gem events in Japan in the future.

The first “Mineral Fair” in Japan, this show was launched in 1988 with a goal of bringing an enjoyment of the earth and her natural resources to the public. Its aim was to promote the excitement of the natural sciences and foster an atmosphere of fun blended with academia in the various fields of the earth sciences (mineral, fossil, gemstones and meteorites). That first event featured only 17 companies yet drew about 10,000 visitors. Today, the 29th Tokyo International Mineral Fair will feature important vendors representing as many as 150 companies from about 30 countries around the world. This prestigious event has grown to garner the attention of research institutions, universities and museums, and welcomes more than 20,000 visitors, professionals and hobbyists.
