Mark your calendars! The Pikes Peak Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show is celebrating its 61st Annual Show on June 6-8, 2025, at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This year’s theme is Beryl, a beautiful mineral species that includes famous gemstones such as emerald, aquamarine, and morganite. Collectors in Colorado are especially familiar with Beryl, as stunning specimens can be found just a few hours from the show at Mount Antero and Mount White.
My journey with the Pikes Peak Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show began in 2011 when I attended as a vendor. While I was already an experienced collector and seller, I was new to Colorado and eager to explore the state’s rich mineral deposits. I found the show's atmosphere incredibly inviting; it was only the second show I had done as a vendor in the state, and everyone in the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society (CSMS) welcomed my family with open arms.
At that time, the show was held indoors and outdoors at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry (WMMI) in northern Colorado Springs. It was a small local show that sparked community interest in the hobby. Over the years, the Pikes Peak Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show has expanded and evolved, moving to different venues to accommodate its growth. Since taking over in 2017, Lisa Cooper has played a crucial role in transforming the event, increasing vendor participation, enhancing the overall experience, and nearly doubling attendance.
The Pikes Peak Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show now hosts over 55 unique vendors. The vendors have a fantastic array of goods related to the hobby of geology. Specimens and jewelry are available to satisfy collectors from young to old, avid to beginner. Tickets for the show are available at the door only, and admission is a modest fee of $5 per person per day or $8 for multiple days. Children aged 12 and under enjoy free admission.
The show has historically included many educational opportunities since it is club-owned and operated by club volunteers. You can expect over twenty-four exhibits at the show this year, from a fluorescent mineral display to stone carvings made by local world-renowned artist Francisco Sotomayor. The show is family-friendly and designed to encourage the next generation of rockhounds. These young rockhounds can enjoy gold panning with the Gold Prospectors of Colorado (GPOC), a scavenger hunt, and connecting with their CSMS Pebble Pups group peers. Rockhounds of all ages can learn about fossils through the Western Interior Paleontological Society (WIPS) and The Friends of the Florissant Fossil Beds. Additionally, they can learn about Colorado’s mining history from the Western Museum of Mining and Industry.
In addition to many vendors having first-hand knowledge and know-how of procuring and prepping their wares, you can expect ways to interact directly throughout the weekend. Beading classes are available each day of the show, and wire-wrapping classes on Sunday. For those eager to learn, a special lecture on ‘Rockhounding in the Pikes Peak Region’ will take place on Saturday afternoon, offering tips and insights for aspiring prospectors. Silent auctions and door prize drawings will be held throughout the event, with winners announced every hour.
