Spanish Pyrite is famous for its cubic shape. It is completely natural – Not cut or polished! Pyrite is iron sulfide (Fe2 Iron (II) disulfide). The crystal system is called isometric, or cubic, meaning that its smaller molecules form cubes. These specimens are roughly 130 million years old.
The Pyrites of Navajún
Navajún is a town in the province and autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. The municipality covers an area of ??16.38 square kilometers (6.32 square miles) and in 2011 it had a population of 21 people. In the entire area of ??the Navajún pyrite deposit, apart from pyrite, only gypsum, chlorite, and some manganese minerals have been found. Pyrite occurs almost exclusively in cubic form and very rarely in Cubo octahedral crystals. Also pyritohedra. Some specimens with beveled edges also come from Navajún. The sizes are between the millimeter and 20 cm. edge, between which all intermediate measures can be given.
