Buried deep in the dark grey shale of the Bearpaw Formation lies the brilliant geological treasure of the Canadian ammonite. Korite International, as a pioneer in the ammolite industry with globally recognized acumen for ethical sourcing, precision cutting, and elite craftsmanship, actively seeks to preserve the ancient culture and integrity of the land while sharing this rare organic gemstone with present-day enthusiasts and collectors. With a close-knit team and a vision of the future as vibrant as the pieces they create, Korite leverages over forty years of industry experience to carefully balance its mission of bringing one of Alberta’s most vibrant natural gifts into the hands of their worldwide following.

Mining raw ammoliteAmmolite is a rare opalescent gemstone sourced from 70-million-year-old ammonite fossil shells found in high concentrations in the Lethbridge, Canada, locality that hosts Korite’s mining operation. Their bright, iridescent coloring, including the premium elusive blue, purple, and pink hues proprietary to the region, are infused into Canadian designers' fine artisan jewelry collaborations to achieve a mesmerizing kaleidoscope effect.

Amarjeet Grewal, Beth Day Chief, Tracy Day ChiefKorite’s new leadership, including owners Beth Day Chief, Tracy Day Chief, and Amarjeet Grewal, collectively focuses on projecting a spirit of inclusivity, creativity, and innovation. The Day Chiefs (of Buffalo Rock Mining) are proud members of the Kainai Nation and offer a blend of strategic insight, operational expertise, and cultural storytelling that connect their passion and product to ammolite’s cultural and natural heritage. Grewal elevates the team with over thirty years of industry experience, elevating this popular gemstone through her focus on merchandising and market strategy, solidifying the company’s position as an international leader.

Korite focuses on ethical mining operations, sustainability, and respect for the land. Geologists and miners work hand-in-hand, excavating primarily “sheet ammolite” from the deeper “Blue Zone,” where the highest-grade material is found. Team members work closely with provincial environmental officials to ensure that once the mining pit is closed, the area is restored to its natural state to reduce the environmental impact of extraction. Ammolite from their mines is certified by the Federal Department of Canadian Heritage, demonstrating their commitment to honoring the gemstone’s ancient roots and supporting the Indigenous community.

The artistry begins once mining discoveries have been carefully excavated and fully refined in their Calgary center. The quality craftsmanship of Korite’s ammolite jewelry showcases each creation's full spectrum of colors, creating a unique and luxurious collection ranging from statement pieces to elegant everyday designs. This design expertise range offers collectors and gem enthusiasts a unique wearable geological history while supporting sustainable practice and illuminating its historical value.
